Description
Please don't read it if you haven't played the game yet and don't want to spoil the pleasure. The description contains the facts you are going to learn during the game. The action takes place in October 1923. Patrick Galloway, the main character, returns to Ireland from exile. He has been unfairly accused of killing a girl named Gwendolyn. This part of his life is not described in the game, but Patrick's "Remembrances" make me think that it was Otto Keisinger, an English count and a magician, who set him up. Patrick comes home and finds a letter from his old friend and commanding officer in the Great War, Jeremiah Covenant, which has been waiting for him for about six months. Jeremiah is ill and the sickness (cancer?) cannot be cured, he asks Patrick to arrive as soon as possible. Galloway cannot refuse, as Jeremiah saved his life during the War. The Gel'ziabar Stone (a trophy that belonged to the Trsanti shaman) and a scar across the face (left by the Stone) remind Patrick of those days. On arriving, Patrick discovers that strange things are going on in the manor. Most butlers and maids have got their discharge and run away, those who have stayed are scared to death and claim that they see ghosts and hear strange sounds. Jeremiah is tied to his bed and slowly wasting away. He tells Patrick about the curse of his family. Over twenty years ago Jeremiah found a book in the library of his father Joseph who was interested in occultism. Being a 12-year-old prankster, Jeremiah took his younger brothers and sisters to the island of the Standing Stones and read aloud an incantation from the book. Since then the Covenants have been haunted by misfortune. Lizbeth, the youngest and the most beautiful of the siblings, died of a disease. Ambrose, the youngest of the brothers, cooperated with the Trsanti warriors and became a dangerous criminal; a year ago he killed his father and found his death in the ocean escaping from the police. Bethany, the eldest of the sisters, murdered her twin brother Aaron and cooperated with Keisinger to develop her magical powers. Not long ago Keisinger killed her and escaped to Oneiros, a ruined city in a parallel world. But the siblings have risen from hell. Lizbeth has turned into a vampire-like predator hiding in a deserted monastery. Ambrose remained a pirate, his lair is in a cave ashore. Aaron's skinned body hangs in the cellar, while his ghost tortures the tenants of the manor longing for revenge. Bethany has created her own world, the Eternal Autumn, and lies low waiting for Patrick. All of them have one aim - to let the Undying King into our world. Patrick's purpose is to prevent it. He starts his long and perilous quest, which includes a leap to the 13th century to get the Scythe of the Celt, the only weapon that can destroy the undead, a couple of journeys to parallel worlds and, of course, numerous fights with supernatural creatures sent by the Covenant siblings.
